Migramar website

Galapagos, 2008

Migramar - www.migramar.org - is a network of marine research and conservation intitutions working together to understand the dynamics of sharks and other pelagic species in the Eastern tropical Pacific.

Recognising that an international coordinated effort is key for policy making across borders, Migramar brings together some of the most experienced scientists, managers of marine protected areas and dive guides of the region to expand our knowledge of the lives and habits of these magnificent animals.

I was asked by Alex Hearn, marine biologist at the Charles Darwin Foundation and University of California Davis, to put together a proposal for their first online presence.

As is often the case, this was the first time they needed to put together communication material that presented the project to a wider audience.

As we put together their website, I helped them structure the information and create the right tone of voice for a non-academic audience.

In 2008 I had the opportunity of going on one of their shark-tagging trips, helping out and documenting their work both above and below the surface.

The result of my collaboration with Migramar was a simple but effective website, which nevertheless sets a new benchmark in marine research and conservation.

This first website is intended to be a simple, solid base to build upon over time. Detailed research results will be forthcoming in the near future.
